To what extent can the coastal management at Lyme Regis be considered a success?

What are the causes of desertification? My opinion is that the scheme has been very successful because the new defences have already stood up to some very stormy winter weather with strong pounding waves. The cliffs of Lyme Regis are unstable and especially prone to landslides and slumps. The two most concerning issues with the scheme are firstly, that the interference of the sea defences with natural processes is effectively moving the erosion further up the coast to Charmouth, and secondly, that the lack of landslides also means a lack of new fossil material being revealed on the shore.
